Trying to outdo the major team the San Jose Barracuda is dead last in the AHL Western Conference and joint last in the whole league.

from Curtis Pashelka of the Mercury News,
The math just doesn’t add up for the Sharks.
Over the last four seasons, the average point total for the team that has finished in the second wild card spot in the Western Conference is 91.5. It’s been as low as 87 in 2016 with Minnesota, and as high as 95 in 2018 with Colorado.
To get to 92 points, the Sharks, at 16-20-2 after Sunday’s 3-1 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights, will need 58 points in the next 44 games. Roughly 6.5 points for every five games they play.
There’s been next to no evidence this month, and for much of the season, that this Sharks team — as currently constructed — is capable of such a run. They entered Monday, when they began a desperately needed four-day break, nine points out of a playoff spot and tied for 13th place in the Western Conference.
The Sharks’ next game is Friday at home against the Los Angeles Kings, followed by a date with the Philadelphia Flyers. Then comes a five-game road trip with games against Detroit, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Washington and St. Louis.
If it’s going to happen, it has to start now.

Their top line guys have all had substandard play, highlighted by Meier and Labanc taking big steps backward and Burns apparent lack of interest. Karlsson looks like he’ll be one of the worst contracts in the league by the time the year is up. Martin Jones is literally by the stats the worst goalie in the league last I checked. And for depth they’re relying on two 40 year olds way past their prime and a bunch of scrubs who’d wouldn’t crack a third line anywhere else. There are no prospects to come save the day and no real draft capital to lean on for a quick turn around. All in all it looks like trading the exchange of Pavelski, Donskoi, and Braun for Karlsson is the dagger in the heart. You can debate it any which way and it was pretty clear Pavs and Braun were on the downswing and Donskoi wasn’t clicking but neither has Karlsson and his game-changing ability has all but vanished. Wilson gambled, and he needed to, but it looks like he’s out of options now.

From the web
According to Sports Business Journal, NBC has suspended long time analyst Jeremy Roenick for what the company deemed "inappropriate comments" directed at his fellow coworkers at NBC Sports.
Jeremy Roenick has been suspended indefinitely without pay for making inappropriate comments about his co-workers, said the statement sent to Sports Business Journal's e-mail. We have no further comment at this time.
The comments were made as Roenick appeared on the Spittin Chiclets podcast, and were directed towards NBC Sports studio host Kathryn Tappen and fellow analyst Patrick Sharp.
I play it off like we're all going to bed together every night, the three of us, Roenick said on the podcast. If it really came to fruition, that would be really good. But it's never going to happen.
The comment was regarding a trip Roenick, his wife and Tappen all took to Portugal. He added that Tappen and his wife are very close friends.
He's [Patrick Sharp] so beautiful, I'd have to think about it if he asked me, Roenick jokingly stated. I wouldn't say no right away.
Personally, I think the comments weren't made to be taken literally, but were made to make people on the podcast and the people listening to the podcast laugh.
Is NBC right for suspending Roenick?

I don't think these players are NY Steak Caliber. DW just doesn't have a plan & some of the draft picks under his watch have a lot to be desired. I still say he should of picked Matthew Barzal over Timo Meier(And I like Timo), But Barzal is fast, creative & shifty & keeps the defense on their heels, Meier is kind of a straight forward player almost similar to Hertl. Anyway it's going to be a long time to clean up the draft mess. They also picked Marco Mueller over Shea Thedore who still playing. I think Mueller is Buried on New Jersey bench.

The difference is those teams are getting more out of their talent.

The difference is those teams are getting more out of their talent. Agree. Top round picks SJ chose that made it into the roster (Marleau, Couture, Hertl, Meier) have performed at least to the expectation. Last season Meier was great, I think he's a victim of the overall mood on the team. Even most the acquired 1st rounders (Thornton, Kane, Burns /Noesen does not count/) have contributed well. The problem is that nothing comes into the top 6F/top 4D from the picks 40 and under. I posted earlier how well the farm team is performing. Another problem is the huge number of round 1 busts in the last decade and a half. Wilson have been gambling on 22-25 years olds from European league, that doesn't work out very well, too. Now he's going to sit out an outstanding draft in 2020.
,
Karlsson is an enigma. He never really fit the team last season, and with the injuries altogether he still hypnotized Dougie into that contract. Thinking what the Sharks could've with the $11.5M cap space...

Merry Chrsitmas to all you fellow helpless hockey Hosers and Hosettes..
Christmas Day fun fact: California Seals forward Stan Gilbertson was the last NHL player to score an NHL goal on Christmas Day. The NHL has not scheduled any Christmas Day games since Gilbertson planted an empty netter for a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings on December 25th, 1971; 48 years ago. The NBA is now the champ of live Christmas day games.

The linesmen need to stop taking guys down. BS. Plus, he (the linesmen) put himself in a bad position and could have been injured. Lets the players solve their own problems.
