the most puzzling thing among this D/G debacle is the absolute beast of the PK.
Is it the combination of 88 and 65 being forced into doing actual defense of all things and the goalies suddenly regaining focus?..

NEW YORK (Dec. 27, 2019) – The 2020 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic®, the New Year’s Day outdoor matchup between the Dallas Stars and Nashville Predators at Cotton Bowl® Stadium in Dallas, will include a salute to the iconic venue with appearances by Cotton Bowl Hall of Famers Troy Aikman and Ricky Williams; a special celebration of the State Fair of Texas; and musical performances by GRAMMY Award-winning duo Dan + Shay, Texas band Midland and “The Voice” winner Jake Hoot, the National Hockey League (NHL) announced today. Live television coverage of the event will begin at 12:00 p.m. CT / 1:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Jan. 1, on NBC in the U.S. and on Sportsnet and TVA Sports in Canada.
The transformation of the Cotton Bowl Stadium football field for the 2020 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic includes the addition of an oversized ranch entry arch featuring the NHL Winter Classic logo flanked by the Stars’ NHL Winter Classic jersey crest and the Predators’ sabre-toothed tiger head logo. The wood motif in the hanging welcome sign is featured throughout the stadium.
Two-time, GRAMMY-nominated band Texas band Midland will open the game day festivities with a performance.
The formal anthem ceremony will begin with the on-field arrivals of the Stars and Predators, escorted by the Dallas Police Department Mounted Unit. Four horse riders carrying U.S., Texas, Predators and Stars flags will take the field, followed by a performance of “The Star Spangled Banner” by newly crowned “The Voice” champion Jake Hoot. The Corpus Christi, Texas native is currently living in Cookeville, Tenn., and will return to his home state after his big win on the four-time Emmy Award-winning musical competition series.
In a salute to the rich history of Cotton Bowl Stadium, Cotton Bowl Hall of Famers Troy Aikman and Ricky Williams will take part in a ceremonial puck drop.
GRAMMY Award-winning duo Dan + Shay will perform in the first intermission presented by Ticketmaster. Dan + Shay continue their rapid rise and are taking the music world by storm. The last twelve months have seen GRAMMY, Billboard, ACM, CMT, Teen Choice, BMI, CMA and American Music Awards wins – most recently snagging two GRAMMY nominations for Best Country Duo/Group Performance and Best Country Song for “Speechless,” the accumulation of four billion career streams globally, several mega-hit, chart-topping songs and more.
During the second intermission, the NHL will pay homage to the biggest attraction in Texas and most Texan place on Earth - the State Fair of Texas. Fans will enjoy some Texas-sized fun as the NHL regulation-size rink shares the field with jugglers, a rodeo clown, a sword swallower, a fire breather, trick roping and horse riding, SMU Mustangs and Texas A&M Aggies dance teams and a rodeo show.
The boots belonging to Big Tex, the internationally known, 55-foot talking cowboy that welcomes the more than 2.5 million visitors to the State Fair of Texas each year, will sit alongside the rink, joined by a rodeo clown and longhorn steer.
Dallas/Fort Worth-band, The 8tracks, will serve as the house band with performances throughout the game.
The 2020 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® will mark the first NHL regular-season outdoor game for both the Stars and the Predators. The matchup on Jan. 1 continues the tradition the League established in 2008 of hosting a regular-season outdoor game at the onset of the new year. This year’s game will be the 29th NHL regular-season outdoor game and the 12th NHL Winter Classic. A complete history of NHL regular-season outdoor games is available here.

from Barry Svrluga of the Washington Post,
Tom Wilson has movie-star looks, a $31 million contract, a Stanley Cup ring and a charity to support families who need it, and he is in an impossible spot. Each night, he laces up his skates and plays on the same line as Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom — perhaps the two best players in Capitals history — because he is skilled enough to warrant that job. Each night he skates that 220-pound frame at speeds more regularly reached by much smaller men, and he evaluates in real time whether he should power into an opposing player or pull back.
The choices are stark. Hit, and he’ll almost certainly be questioned. Pull back, and he’ll question himself.
“You have a reputation,” he said. “You have to deal with it.”
Wilson deals with it every day. There was a time when players who dish out hits the way Wilson can were valued in the NHL rather than vilified. That time is not the dawn of 2020. Since he entered the league as a 19-year-old rookie in 2013, no player has accumulated more penalty minutes; indeed, no one is within 100 of him. He has been suspended four times, including once in the playoffs and once for a hit in the preseason that cost him the first 14 games after the Capitals won the Stanley Cup. In a social media era, he regularly has to turn away from Twitter, where he finds the following — and worse....
“Letting Tom Wilson stay in the Nhl is a [expletive] joke.”
“Tom Wilson is such a piece of human [expletive] garbage. What a buffoon.”
Those are tweets from one night in the life of Tom Wilson.

via Sportsnet's YouTube page,
Hockey is a tough sport, as Riley Stillman, Tyler Bertuzzi, Mitch Marner, Jason Demers and Melker Karlsson all get hit in the head and/or face by flying pucks on the same Saturday night of NHL action.

When you notice your favorite restaurant has started serving food of a lesser quality, think inferior breakfast sausage or bacon, you take notice and eventually stop visiting.
When you notice a product you buy on a regular basis has changed something that makes it worse, you stop buying it.
When a TV show you watch 'jumps the shark', you stop watching.
When your favorite NHL team goes south and you know it is going to take time to become good again, what do you do?

via arizonacentral,
Coyotes center Derek Stepan was the recipient of a hit to the head from Stars defenseman Jamie Oleksiak and was removed from the game with an upper-body injury, per the Coyotes.
The Coyotes did not have an update on Stepan's condition after the game, other than to say he had entered concussion protocol. Stepan appeared fairly agitated when he left the arena Sunday night.

Trying to outdo the major team the San Jose Barracuda is dead last in the AHL Western Conference and joint last in the whole league. Hopefully they show up tonight. The wife and I are taking my son and his wife in a we buy you fly deal. Game starts at 5 and should end around 8. Plenty of time to get back home and be passed out on the couch before New Years. LOL

Only Logan from the Sharks. My how things have changed. And the only reason he’s there is because the rules require a player from each team. Calling it the all star game is stupid at this point.

The comments for the win Dear Miss Manners: I have been dating my boy friend for 2 months, and he took me to a Sharks game. He bought me a hamburger and a soda, and afterward he tried to take me to his apartment for sex. I said no. was I wrong? Gentle Reader: No you were NOT wrong. Hold out until he takes you to a 49er game then to a fine restaurant before you consent to sex.

LOL My take on the game tonight for the Barracuda, They did have some great zone time offence but it was all on the perimeter of the rink, when they did find an open lane there was nobody in the crease. They suck, I'm gonna say worse then the sharks on the power play, I think they were 0/5 on it with one of them a 5 on 3. If this team is what the Sharks are gonna look like in the future we are totally fucked big time.
