Seven teams did not qualify for the playoffs and their season is over: the Buffalo Sabres, New Jersey Devils, Anaheim Ducks, Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks, Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings. Each of them will participate in the NHL Draft Lottery, which will hold its first phase June 26. I believe Ottawa gets the Sharks pick. Watch it be the first pick overall Goc no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fuck the NHL. They had no right to eliminate any team except the Wings. A simple play-in round would do the job.
And DW not being able to squeeze into top 12 in the Conference of 15 after signing Karlsson is epic without precedent.

After the shit season, the hockey gods would do that to the sharks though. For having a "soft" team this year, they sure were penalized unfairly frequently (hopefully the vegas crying retaliation expires after this season). Or here is to the hope that DW has one last trick up his sleeve to salvage the draft/Karlson situation. But of course I'm not going to hold my breath.

It’s a non-perfect solution but if you aren’t a top 24 team in the NHL you have zero grounds to complain. Sharks, like the other six, sucked and the playoffs will be just fine without them. Agree on the second part, no playoffs, no cap space, no top five pick is as bad as it gets.

Goc no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ottawa has the Sharks 1st round pick for Erik Karlson, The Sharks got Tampa Bay 1st round pick for Barclay Goodrow. And with their own crappy record plus that Sharks’ pick the Sens actually have better odds at landing the #1 pick than the Wings.

I wasn’t happy they went with 24 teams at first, but it seems they went with all teams who had a winning record, except the Habs who are 31 and 31. I guess that makes sense. Barring a miracle, the Sharks are going to be bad for at least the next several years. Who’s your (and anyone else who wants to weigh in) dark horse playoff picks in each conference? Mine are the Isles and Hawks.

Is a young team better off having to basically go from 0-100? I think the teams that could make noise would be Blue Jackets, Rangers, and Jets.

I agree the Rangers could make some noise if they get good goal tending. The Blue Jackets are my second pick if/when the Canes go out.

And that's frankly the biggest gap outside of the one over Jone's shoulder.

DW Interview. Blaming injury for the season when it was clear they were a mess before the injuries came: www.yahoo.com/sports/sharks-gm-doug-wilson-discusses-005714447.htmlWill announcing the next permanent head coach come soon? "Now, we have time to build the staff that's best going forward for this team. Bob (Boughner) has certainly got the inside track. I thought he did a good job with our team, we were playing some really good hockey, the right way, defending better, our PK (penalty kill) was good. "And then when you lose Erik (Karlsson), Logan (Couture), and Tomas (Hertl), that makes it pretty difficult. We're still in the middle of that process. We'll be very thorough." On the Sharks' issues with goaltending and team defense: "Goaltending gets blamed, it's the easy target to go to. Here we had the best penalty killing in the league - same goaltending, same defensemen, same forwards, yet we struggled five on five. Whether that's preparation, attitude, commitment, whatever it is. "Collectively you have to look at it: how can we play better in the defensive zone? That's all five people, to give the goaltender a chance."

Converse is true as well, goalie has to play well to give the five a chance.

Truly is. I do think their PK has gotten more aggressive the last couple seasons but that’s only by eye.

I do think their PK has gotten more aggressive the last couple seasons but that’s only by eye. They became more aggressive in a good way (not the last little bit under the Todd when they decided to run around like a chicken with its head cut off). Another factor is the sharks were either the most penalized team this season or close to the top thanks to the Vegas crybabies. I think under a normal penalized season though the PK would still have been near the top. The 5 on 5 play is a conundrum that I don't even know how to approach a fix for.

Drop the puck.
Just heard on radio NHL training camps opening next week, 24 team tourney schedules to follow. there’s going to be NHL hockey with Barracuda size crowds. Let’s find some invisible juice and ALL sit rinkside! Should be good hockey, every team is healthy again, even Sid.. bumps and bruises healed up. so if you don’t yet have that big HD tv yet, now is the time!

Hollow words...when I see y’all speaking up/doing something about the daily deaths of blacks in the big cities then maybe I’ll care about your pontificating about the very rare cases of wrongful deaths of people at the hands of the cops. I’m not justifying the cops in this case in any way...just pointing out hypocrisy.
