from Amalie Benjamin of NHL.com,
Torey Krug said Thursday he is looking for a longer-term contract and would not take fewer years or less money to remain with the Boston Bruins before becoming a free agent.
"I'm very opposed to that," the defenseman said of signing a one-year contract. "I've bet on myself. I've taken shorter-term deals, less amount of money my whole career now. This is my time in terms of my value at its peak. I have the ability, I'm in a position now where I need to make the most of it."
The 29-year-old, who reiterated he would like to stay with the Bruins, can become an unrestricted free agent with his four-year contract with an average annual value of $5.25 million about to expire. Prior to that, he signed two consecutive one-year contracts, worth $1.4 million for 2014-15 and $3.4 million in 2015-16.
With a flat NHL salary cap next season ($81.5 million), and Krug likely in line for a considerable raise, it's not certain Boston will be able to find space for him. He said contact between his agent and the Bruins has been "very few and far between."
"I'm not really sure what the future holds," Krug said. "I'm willing to sit back and see what happens here."

Going to Demko is the kind of bold move a team makes when they wanna win.

And Gallant will be laughing his ass off. I'm still trying to figure out what happened with Gallant. Elliotte Friedman said the front office didn’t like how inconsistent they played. They looked all-world when their on and pretty plain when they’re not and more than that didn’t like how Gallant wouldn’t pay attention to analytics. Agree though that it didn’t make sense before or after hearing that.

Both berths in the Western Conference Final will be decided today with a pair of games at Rogers Place in Edmonton, where the Colorado Avalanche will take on the Dallas Stars (4 p.m., ET, USA Network, Sportsnet, TVAS), followed by the Vegas Golden Knights against the Vancouver Canucks (9 p.m., ET, NBCSN, CBC, Sportsnet, TVAS). They looked all-world when their on and pretty plain when they’re not and more than that didn’t like how Gallant wouldn’t pay attention to analytics. Agree though that it didn’t make sense before or after hearing that. Funnily, the four most loaded teams on the analytics front are Arizona, Toronto, Carolina and Colorado. Arizona may not be that anymore now that Chayka is out, but it has been anyways. Well, Seattle are hiring even more analysts, but that's another matter.
Anyways, the four analytical frontrunners are out, and Avalanche seems to have hung out for longer only because of the fact it has had top ten picks more frequently than any team in the league in the last 10-12 years, except maybe the Oilers. Right now they have 2 1sts, one 2nd, two 4ths, two 7ths and three 10ths on the roster.

Curious question that I’m too lazy to look up (I’m at a cottage with the in-laws in my defense). What are the ratings for the playoffs this year? So far pretty good www.sportsmediawatch.com/2020/08/stanley-cup-playoff-ratings-nbc-nbcsn-viewership/Stanley Cup playoff viewership continues to trend ahead of last year. The first week of the Stanley Cup Playoffs averaged 633,000 viewers across NBC Sports’ TV and digital platforms, up 4% from the comparable period of last year’s playoffs (610K). Games on cable have averaged 545,000 (including streaming), the highest at this point since 2017 (548K). Viewership has increased despite a number of weekday afternoon start times. Excluding those games raises the cable average by 5% to 573,000. Though the overall trend is positive, NBC hit lows for its primetime games last weekend. Golden Knights-Blackhawks Game 3 averaged a 0.8 rating and 1.25 million viewers on Saturday night, marking the least-watched primetime Stanley Cup game ever on broadcast television. Flyers-Canadiens Game 3 drew a 0.9 and 1.37 million the following night, ranking second. Prior to this year, no primetime playoff game on broadcast TV had averaged fewer than 1.56 million (Hurricanes-Capitals Game 5 last year). NBC’s first primetime game last postseason — Maple Leafs-Bruins Game 2 — averaged 1.71 million. Keep in mind that both of NBC’s primetime windows overlapped with competing playoff games on NBCSN — Lightning-Blue Jackets Game 3 on Saturday (0.34, 579K) and Golden Knights-Blackhawks Game 4 on Sunday (0.42, 717K). In other action, NBC averaged a 0.8 (+5%) and 1.21 million (+2%) for Bruins-Hurricanes Game 3 Saturday afternoon. Game 4 of the series averaged 700,000 viewers on NBCSN Monday night (+11%). Earlier Monday, Colorado’s 7-1 blowout of Arizona averaged 488,000. The 5:30 PM ET start outdrew all-but-one late night window in this year’s playoffs (Blackhawks-Golden Knights Game 1: 489K). [Nielsen estimates from ShowBuzz Daily 8.18 a, b; NBC Sports PR]
