from Ansar Khan of Mlive,
Detroit Red Wings center prospect Otto Kivenmaki was on the receiving end of a devastating hit to the head Saturday in a Finnish League game and remains in the hospital for observation.
Assat Pori, his team, said in a statement that Kivenmaki, 19, is conscious and in stable condition. The club said it will be at least 2-3 weeks before a prognosis can be made on his recovery.

via Sportsnet,
The Ottawa Senators have dismissed CEO Jim Little less than two months after hiring him in early January.
According to a statement, “the decision was made as a result of conduct inconsistent with the core values of the Ottawa Senators and the National Hockey League.” It is effective immediately.
Little was originally hired by the Senators to oversee the business operations side of the club, with a specific focus on marketing and community engagement. He came to the Senators from Shaw Communications and also has previously worked as an executive with Royal Bank, Bell Canada, and Bombardier.
According to a statement released Wednesday, a search for Little’s replacement has already begun and senior management will cover his duties in the interim.

from Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic,
The Bye Week
... “We discussed it and we’re going to try to fix it as best we can,’’ Tallon said. “The 11 teams that played teams that had already played, there was a dismal record. It’s not really a fair thing. But we’re going fix it. At least everybody is aware of it and we’re trying to do the best we can with the format. We’ve got to make sure that it’s a fair schedule as far as who you play when you come out of that break. Because it was inconsistent. But we’ve addressed it.’’
The Panthers came out of their long break and got waxed by a Montreal Canadiens team that had already played a few games. Tallon correctly feels that isn’t fair....
On The Condensed Schedule
“Four in six, four in six, we come back from a long road trip and we play four in six, three in four at home, back-to-back day games. My concern is about the longevity of the player,’’ Tallon said. “Every time I look at the paper the next day, I say ‘who got hurt last night?’ So we have to be careful of that as well.’’
But, as both Daly and Bettman pointed out to the GMs and later to the media, the bye weeks were negotiated with the NHLPA as part of the 3-on-3, All-Star format and it’s a staggered agreement meaning because they used the All-Star format this year in St. Louis, the bye weeks are guaranteed to be back next season.

Henri "The Pocket Rocket" Richard, Maurice's little brother, passed away today.
He had 11 Stanley Cup wins as a player. ELEVEN. More than anyone else. More than the total of any team but his own Canadiens, Toronto (13) and Detroit (=11).
He only had one individual trophy - the Bill Masterton which he received after his penultimate (and effectively, the last) season.

That Merkley vid was nice, but I didn't realize he's still in the OHL....
Cap going up to 84+ changes things. Dougie could theoretically fill 2 major holes in the forward group, likely get a 2 mil plug on D and potentially throw Jones into the bay to do something in net (or keep him and sign someone around 3.5mil).

Saw a great story today in the Chronicle about Nabby busting Jones ass in practice the last few weeks to get his game back. He's been pretty solid the last few games, hopefully it'll stick.
