That is true but I may have unwittingly committed a beer foul. For me, it needs to be a high of at least 80 Fahrenheit to enjoy a Mexican lager. I also tend to drink certain styles during certain times of the year (except an IPA fits any time - that’s more mood based). Late fall and winter is all about the porters and stouts. Spring I reach for sours and amber ales. Summer is all about lagers and pilsners then early fall is a quick transition through brown ales back to porters and stouts. The only beer foul is to not enjoy the beer you’re drinking as there is a situation and a price point for every beer. TRO This is sound board beer logic. Have you tried anything from these guys: www.pfriembeer.com/

When its cold, heavier beers. However, that can change with circumstances...cigars, chainsaws, etc Pretty standard beer logic. If you reach for a Guinness in July, something's gone wrong. In other beer news, I just hit 1000 beers tried in my lifetime. I know, I am amazing.

Pretty standard beer logic. If you reach for a Guinness in July, something's gone wrong. In other beer news, I just hit 1000 beers tried in my lifetime. I know, I am amazing. How are you tracking that? Started out on a spreadsheet with my brother and future sister-in-law. Transferred it when they couldn’t keep up with kids and stuff. I couldn’t do the spreadsheet, just put it in a word file and listed them by how much I liked them 1-10. So it is bare bones right now but back in the day we had it sortable by country, type, tasting notes, it was legit. Glad we started it, raised my ability to appreciate and understand beer, helped me realize which beers I prefer to which ones I don’t. I posted it a ways back in the booze thread but fair warning it is quite the long scroll.

I think he is a old board member but not sure. Either way welcome indeed. Yes! I was a log time lurker, throwing in an occasional left field comment from Royal and Nforce days. Hope everyone is doing well. Thankfully we're busy with more WFH and distance learning for the kidos.

My older one is now 26 so he is on his own in Denver but remains a faithful Sharks fan. The younger one is 22 and is finishing up SCU though taking classes at home for now. All and all cant complain.

Not yet but thanks for mentioning it. I'll pick up a bottle next time I go there It seemed reasonably priced at $80 for a 22 year (well, after the stupidity of Washington liquor taxes, $98). It’s apparently a speyside which was aged in bourbon casks then finished in sherry casks. I chickened our last time because they had Suntory Toki for $30 ($38 after WA taxes) which is a solid Japanese blend. TRO I also have fucked taxes and found suntori for around 38. Was surprised as I thought Japanese stuff was pricey. It's pretty good!

Wow, the tax on booze is ridiculous there It’s actually cheaper than it was previously. Until about 6 years ago all liquor was sold through state operated stores. There were never sales, closed Sunday and a fifth of jack would cost about $23. Costco (and a couple others) got an initiative on the ballot to allow for private sales of liquor, effectively shutting down the state run liquor stores. The state then, to make up for their lost revenues, instituted two taxes on distilled spirits - a 20.5% sales tax and a flat $3.75 per liter after that, prorated for the actual volume purchased. It’s why I try to arrange my liquor purchasing around trips to either Canada or Oregon. The CA family also frequently is clutch. TRO This is North Carolina in 2020. State run and Sunday is now open but not until noon.

What are the dates for that? Seems weird to cancel Summer stuff when things are just starting to open back up. Last week of June, first two weeks of July. I'm not sure of all reasons, but figured it was a 50-50 coin flip (to cancel) in April. Concert series, horse racing and tons of logistics, too many health/distancing concerns that need to please so many agencies. It was sizing up to be watered-down Fair this summer anyways. I figure this will wipe out other Bay Area county fairs as well. Big hit to the local P'ton economy. Countless local kids take summer jobs there and learn how to work.

Yea, I thought so. A beer tasting App for iPhone or Android. Googled it and there's a ton. TapHunter, Untapped, BeerAdvocate.. if John96 could get his data into one of these Apps, the phone just gets that much more valuable.. Imagine taking a pic of a new beer you're enjoying, GPS catalogs when and where u were for all time. Man, 21st century is amazing. Back in the day we'd just drink Pabst Blue Ribbon and pass out. A beer diary was unheard of.

Was surprised as I thought Japanese stuff was pricey. It's pretty good! Japanese whiskeys, especially single batch whiskey, are quite expensive. The Suntory Toki is a blended whisky which is good from the standpoint of consistency from bottle to bottle but that blending can eliminate some of the more interesting and funkier notes from individual barrels. Blending tends to produce a smoother whisky, but I prefer the funkier single batch stuff, even though it’s considerably more expensive. I also don’t miss state run liquor stores. The employees were fine but the selection was poor and the prices miserable. TRO

When Gorbachev came to power in the USSR, he declared alcoholism a major problem in the country (surprise, surprise) and ruled (besides many other equally disastrous rulings) that liquor sales may only occur between 2pm and 7pm.
